Senior Service America Inc. (SSAI) has selected Southwest Human Resource Agency/West Tennessee Workforce Development Board, LWDA-11 to operate the SCSEP Program in Decatur, Henderson, Haywood and Madison counties as a result of SSAI’s competitive RFP in Tennessee.
SWHRA/LWDA-11 took over the administration of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in Chester, Hardeman, Hardin and McNairy counties in January 2011. The mission of the program is to provide job training and placement for people with limited financial resources who are age 55 or older, and to provide employers with trained, motivated workers.
Hiring older workers brings stability to employers by reducing turnovers. This saves money in the long run by reducing recruitment and training costs.
Some employers may even qualify to take part in a program that pays the new employee’s salary during an on-the-job training experience.
A survey of human resources managers showed “loyalty and dedication to the company” along with “commitment to doing quality work” as the top qualities of older workers.
These qualities serve a business not only through the older worker’s efforts, but by providing an example for other employees to follow.
SWHRA /LWDA-11 will begin administering the SCSEP program in Decatur, Henderson, Haywood and Madison Counties on July 1, 2013
